Indian flat bread and gram flour spicy curry: Pithale Bhakari

Indian flat bread and gram flour spicy curry:
This is most popular dish of Maharashtra, made in almost every region. There are so many recipes of pithale Bhakari!



  • Ingredients: 
  • For bhakari:
  • 1 cup water,
  •  1 cup rice flour, 
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt,
  •  water for dough
  • For gram flour curry:
  •  1 cup gram flour, 
  • 2 cups water, 1 teaspoon red chilly powder,
  •  4/5 garlic cloves,
  •  2 green chilies,
  •  Indian borage(mexican mint ) leaves(optional) 20, 
  • 3 onions, 
  • Salt to taste, oil 2 tablespoons,
  • Mustard seeds 1/4 teaspoon, 
  • Hing 1/4 teaspoon,
  • Turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon,
  • Carom seeds 1/2 teaspoon
  • Procedure: 
  • For gram flour curry:
  • Peel and chop onions. 
  • peel garlic cloves.
  • Wash and cut green chillies. 
  • Wash and cut Indian borage(mexican mint ) leaves.
  • Heat oil in a pan. 
  • Add mustard seeds. 
  • Once they crackle add carom seeds.
  •  Then add green chilies, stir well. 
  • Add finely chopped onion, garlic cloves.
  •  Stir until onion becomes golden brown. 
  •  Add carom leaves, stir for two minutes. 
  • Add hing powder and turmeric powder. 
  • Stir well. 
  • Add 2 cups of water. 
  • Add red chilly powder and 1 teaspoon salt.
  •  Boil the mixture.
  •  Adjust  low flame.
  •  Add gram flour slowly and keep stirring.
  •  Add more water to adjust consistency. 
  • Some small balls of gram flour remain in the curry.
  •  Cook them in boiling curry for 5 minutes.
  •  (Spicy gram flour curry)Pithale is ready!

  • For Indian flat bread( bhakari):
  •  Add 1 cup water and 1/2 teaspoon salt in a pan.
  •   Keep on medium flame.
  •  When water starts boiling add rice flour, mix well and remove the flame. 
  • Let it cool. 
  • Knead the dough for bhakari, use some water if required.
  •  Take the dough ball. 
  • In a flat dish, take dry rice flour, sprinkle in the dish then make round flat shape with the help of palms.
  •  Heat the tawa.
  •  Put bhakari on the tawa(pan). 
  • Apply water on upper surface, Roast both sides. 
  • Then roast on direct flame. 
  • Serve hot with Pithale!!!
